The Most Toys

TNG Season 3 Episode 22
Air Date: May 6th, 1990

Gathering supplies from a trading ship that is needed to help a colony, Data is killed in a shuttle explosion. At least that is what the Enterprise thinks. He is really kidnapped by the trader Kivas Fajo and added to his collection of rare items.

Data tries to escape and only at the end was able to convince one of the Fajo's employees that she wopuld be better off without Fajo. But he catches up with them, kills his employee. Data is able to obtain a weapon and threatens to kill Fajo if he doesn't let him go. Meanwhile the Enterprise during their grieving process also investigate the shuttle explosion. Wesley discovers that there was something amiss and tells Picard that Data wasn't on the shuttle. They intercept the trading ship and beam Data back on board.

Data has never killed someone. Watching the series from the beginning it is something I had never realized before. In this episode it appears he made the decision that the galaxy would be safer if Fajo were killed. When he was transported back to the Enterprise O'Brien comments that the disruptor was in mid firing. Data claims it must have been an error, and it is left up to the audience.

"Data. You will be catered to, fawned over, cared for, as you never have been before. Your every wish will be fulfilled." - Fajo
"I wish to leave." - Data

"A Varon-T disrupter. It belongs to Fajo." - Data
"Mr. O'Brien says the weapon was in a state of discharge." - Riker
"Perhaps something occurred during transport, Commander." - Data

" Your collection has been confiscated. All of your stolen possessions are being returned to their rightful owners. You have lost everything you value." - Data
That must give you great pleasure." - Fajo
"No, sir. It does not. I do not feel pleasure. I am only an android." - Data
