Force of Nature

TNG Season 7 Episode 9
Air Date: November 15th, 1993

The Enterprise is tasked to track down a missing Federation ship in an unstable region of space known as the Hekaras Corridor. They originally think that the Ferengi were responsible but when they find a disabled Ferengi ship they realize that something else is happening. They encounter a Hekaras ship with a brother sister scientist duo aboard that claim they are researching how warp travel above warp five is destroying the space time continuum. The sister even goes on a suicide mission to prove it creating a tear in space time.

The end result of the episode is the Federation creating a limitation that all ships not exceed warp five unless it is an emergency. This limitation is brought up in a few episodes later on, but never mentioned in DS9 or Voyager.

There is a subplot where Data tries training Spot, which is possible but for anyone who has tried to train a cat would know, it is not an easy task.

"Why is Spot under the bed?" - Lt. Cmdr. Data
"Probably because she knows if I catch her, I'm gonna kill her." - Lt. Cmdr. La Forge

"I just received this from Commander Kaplan, subspace." - Lt. Cmdr. La Forge
"La Forge. I got the Intrepid's power conversion levels up to 97.1%. Maybe you should try cleaning your plasma grid once in a while". - Cmdr. Kaplan
Can you believe the nerve of that guy?" - Lt. Cmdr. La Forge
"We perform maintenance on the plasma grid at regular intervals." - Lt. Cmdr. Data
"I know. He's just trying to get me angry. There, that should do it. Computer, what are the current power conversion levels?" - Lt. Cmdr. La Forge
"Power conversion levels are at 97.2%." - Computer
"Too bad, Mr. Kaplan!" - Lt. Cmdr. La Forge
