Force of Nature

TNG Season 7 Episode 9
Air Date: November 15th, 1993

The Enterprise is tasked to track down a missing Federation ship in an unstable region of space known as the Hekaras Corridor. They originally think that the Ferengi were responsible but when they find a disabled Ferengi ship they realize that something else is happening. They encounter a Hekaras ship with a brother sister scientist duo aboard that claim they are researching how warp travel above warp five is destroying the space time continuum. The sister even goes on a suicide mission to prove it creating a tear in space time.

The end result of the episode is the Federation creating a limitation that all ships not exceed warp five unless it is an emergency. This limitation is brought up in a few episodes later on, but never mentioned in DS9 or Voyager.

There is a subplot where Data tries training Spot, which is possible but for anyone who has tried to train a cat would know, it is not an easy task.
